He despised his father and his mistress Agnes Sorel and attempted to depose him in 1440 and 1446. In 1456 he again argued with his father and fled to Burgundy where the message of his fathers death reached him in 1461. In 1465 the noble families allied against him. He fought them successfully over the years. In 1477 his main enemy Charles the Bold died and he was able to gain the upper hand over the rest of the nobles. His contribution for France are very remarkable. He destroyed the big vassal states within the Kingdom and expanded his sphere of influence to the Pyrenees, Alps and the Jura Mountains. After Margaret's death he married the 9 year old Charlotte of Savoy in 1451. They had 7 children but only 3 survived their childhood. He married his distorted daughter Jeanne to Louis of Orleans, later King Louis XII. who did not know of her appearance. The family of the Orleans unsuccessfully tried the to cancel the marriage contract. Anne married Pierre II. de Bourbon and reigned the kingdom until Charles VIII. was old enough to succeeded his father. He died at the Castle Plessis-lez-Tours.
