Jane was the daughter of Peter and Nancy (Evans) Crim and was born in South Carolina. She was one of the early pioneer children to come to Alabama, arriving with her parents in 1825 when she would have been about six years old. Oral history is that the family traveled in a wagon train with other members of the extended family. The family settled on what is the present border of Shelby and Chilton Counties.

The exact date and location of Jane's marriage has not been found but she married William M. Armstrong -- almost certainly in Alabama and about 1833.

Jane and William appear together in the 1860 federal census with children listed as follows: Mary E Armstrong, 22; Jno Armstrong, 21; Nancy H Armstrong, 18; Susan Armstrong, 16; Robt Armstrong, 14; Elza Armstrong, 12; Sue [probably Louisa] Armstrong, 6; Wm Armstrong, 8; Wm H Crum [William Henry "Henry" Crim, son of Jane's brother, John Wesley Crim], 5;
Martha Armstrong, 3; and Jane Armstrong, 7 Months.

William died in 1865, leaving Jane a widow with a large family. The 1870 federal census, Shelby Co., Alabama lists the following children for Jane: Susan Armstrong, 25; Robt M Armstrong, 23; Eliza J Armstrong, 20; William Armstrong, 17; Louisa Armstrong;,14; Martha Armstrong, 12; and Cordilia Armstrong,10.

In the 1900 federal census, Shelby Co., Alabama, Jane indicated she was the mother of 11 children with 10 living.

The children of Jane (Crim) and William Armstrong were:
Amanda Emaline, Mary Elizabeth, John M. (W?), Nancy H.(A?), Susan A., Robert M., Jane, William M., Louisa/Sue, Martha C., and Cordelia Jane "Jane".

The Armstrong family lived in Shelby County, just inside the present Shelby/Chilton border and very near present U.S. Highway 31-S, with the property being to the left and perhaps 500 feet off the highway as one travels south. Living with them for a brief time was Jane's brother, John Wesley, most likely with his third wife, Minerva Caroline (Rogers) Crim and children.

Both Jane and William are buried at Old Rock Springs Cemetery in Chilton County. They share a headstone with their individual information on different sides of the square marker.
