Edward Wesley Rucker - West Columbia:

Services for Edward Wesley Rucker, 81, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church on Hwy 21 off I-26. Officiating will be the Rev. Debra A. Armstrong and the Rev. James Ceman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rex Long, Bubba Long, Patrick Long, Christian Hawn, Lonnie Sturges and Caroll Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Moss, P.J. Long and Melvin Gleaton.

Mr. Rucker died Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Born in Swansea, he was the son of the late Salley Dantzler and Jessie Brady Rucker. He had been a local area resident for 61 years and had retired from Columbia Supply Co. after 38 years of faithful service. Mr. Rucker was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church and was a strong Christian, trustworthy, dependable, and was helpful to anyone in need. He enjoyed camping, square dancing, working on cars, loved outdoors and fishing. He was a devoted loving husband and the best father anyone could ever have. He was also the kind of friend that anyone would be blessed to have in their life. Mr. Rucker served in the United States Navy with great pride two separate times.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth G. Rucker of West Columbia; daughter, Patricia Rucker Nicholas (Kerry) of West Columbia; sisters, Sylvia Long (P.J.) of West Columbia, and Terry Gleaton (Melvin) of South Congaree; brothers, Legree Rucker (Jackie) of Swansea, and Joseph Rucker (Marylea) of Corona, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
