Jake was a lifelong Inverness resident and the only son of Bob and Susan Velloza. He attended West Marin School and graduated from Tomales High School in 2004.

Following high school he attended College of Marin. Jake was a natural athlete, he loved playing sports. At Tomales High Jake played baseball and football with a passion. He pitched for the Tomales baseball team where opponents found it hard to hit his "stuff". When Jake wasn't on the mound he was playing center field. Not many balls got by him because of his speed. His speed and agility carried over to his other favorite sport, football, enabling him to help push his team to a championship. Jake also pitched for COM.

While at COM he became interested in photography and actually had his photos displayed at Bovine Bakery for a show. Jake worked briefly reading meters for the North Marin Water District in Novato before he joined the Army in 2006.

Jake was schooled in armored warfare at Fort Knox, Kentucky, served a tour in Iraq for about a year, then was reassigned to Fort Hood, Texas. In December 2008 he returned to Iraq, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

He was one of two U.S. Army soldiers killed when a lone gunman opened fire on a group of Americans in Mosul, Iraq.

Jake was the beloved son of Susan and Robert of Inverness. Devoted fiancé of Danielle E. Cherished grandson of May and Richard of Pt Reyes and the late Donna and Gus Noel of Petaluma. Survived by numerous cousins and friends.
