Doris Margaret Alvin died Tuesday, May 9 at the age of 94. She was born October 28, 1905 to Ole M. and Josephine Karlstad Olson in Northome, MN. Her mother was the first postmaster of Northome. Her father, an engineer for a milling company, established lumber mills at Fosston, Cass Lake, and Northome.

Doris lived in Minneapolis, Winnebago, Park Rapids, and Bemidji. She graduated from Bemidji High School and Bemidji College, and taught school for three years in Crookston. She also played in a city softball league.

Doris came to North Branch in 1927 and taught second and third grades, coached girls' basketball and track, and was a Girl Scout leader. In 1929, Doris married Fillmore B. Alvin. Their marriage lasted 66 years. They had one son, Michael Jon, born September 11, 1939.

Throughout her life, Doris enjoyed reading, gardening and bowling. Doris was a past matron of Chicago Chapter #148 O.E.S. and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the North Branch Women's Civic Club. She was a chairman of the County Red Cross Blood Program and served on the Ration Board during World War II.

Doris served as bookkeeper for Alvin & Co, for 15 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael, husband Fihmore, sister Irene, and brothers Willard and Harold McCrady. She is survived by grandson Eric Alvin and his wife Karen Timberlake, granddaughter Kristen Greene and her husband, Jeff, and their daughter Emily Margaret, and dear friends Sharon and Fred Remund. She is also survived by sister-in-law Iva McCrady, niece Mary Jo Yachwak and family, nephews Pat and Kit McCrady and family, cousin Inez Olson, niece Jean Higgins and family, nephew Col. James Henrionnet and family, Dick and Phyllis Alvin, Venus Alvin, and the extended Alvin family, and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Fireside Room, or to the North Branch Area Library. A memorial service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, May 12.
