She was born Dec. 24, 1935, in South Bend, as the daughter of Donald O. and Vera J. (Hirsch) Whiteman, and had remained a lifelong resident.
On June 5, 1955, as Billie J. Whiteman, she married Joseph E. Kapshandy , who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Kim (Joseph) Tatman of Marietta, Ga.; a son, Timothy E. (Marcy) Kapshandy of Schererville, Ind.; four grandchildren, Kelly and Kathleen Kapshandy of Schererville, and Jacquie and Brett Tatman of Marietta; and by a sister, Patricia (Ken) Lansford of LaPorte, Ind.
Mrs. Kapshandy was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Kapshandy on March 18, 1983.
She had been employed as a secretary for the South Bend Masonic Temple since 1984, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, in the First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave., South Bend. Rev. David Morrow, pastor, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.
The family has requested that memorial donations for Billie J. Kapshandy be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend.
