He was born January 13, 1911 in Clay County, the son of James and Jennie Lee Herdes. He married Lillian Rinnert January 30, 1932 in Sailor Springs. She passed away June 7, 1985.
A member of Freedom Baptist Church in Noble, Mr. Herdes was a retired self-employed welder.
Survivors include daughters Lora Marie Smith and Nola Lee Evans; a brother, Winfred Herdes; two sisters, Iva Gaskin and Mildred Flannigan; five grandchildren;; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife; sister, Melda, one grandson; and one infant brother.
Funeral services were held at Summers-Kistler funeral Home with burial in the Clay City Cemetery.
