Wayne R. Dewing, 56, Bismarck, died Sept. 5, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Lisa Ahlness and Jeffrey A. Franko officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a prayer service will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Wayne was born April 19, 1945, the son of Ralph and Helen (Forthun) Dewing, at Mare Island, Calif., in the Naval Hospital. He was raised in Columbus where his family farmed. His family moved to Bismarck where Wayne graduated from Bismarck High School in 1963. He then graduated from Bismarck Junior College prior to attending the University of North Dakota. Wayne served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Washington, D.C. and in Vietnam, receiving his honorable discharge in 1973. He then farmed on the family farm in Burke County near Columbus. He later farmed and ranched east of Bismarck.
Wayne was a man who enjoyed being around people and was a good friend. Although Wayne never had children of his own, he was truly a grandpa to Jan¹s grandsons, Vernon, Tate, Sam, Alex and Jack. He was a devoted and dedicated man to his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Dewing; his special friend, Jan Newman, Bismarck, and her family, Deana Markle, Bismarck, Vernon Newman, Fargo, Jolene Hoffman and her husband Dan, Bismarck, and of course the five grandsons; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Myrna and Alfred Ryberg, Menoken, Marvey Weigold, Syracuse, N.Y., and Jane Dewing, St. Louis Park, Minn.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gaylen and Wanda Dewing, Bismarck, and Carroll and Crystal Dewing, Wilton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; his brother, Malen; an infant brother; and a brother-in-law.
