Times were hard in Coweta County after the end of the Civil War. Sometime after the 1870 census, the clan apparently moved for a short time to Arkansas and then to Chattooga County, Georgia. Mattie was married to William J Beavers (who was from Coweta County) on 2 Nov 1875 in Chattooga County, Georgia.
William and Mattie are found back in Coweta County in the 1880 census with their young children. By the 1900 census record, the family is living in Polk County, Georgia. Subsequently, the family moved to Haralson County, Georgia where the family is found in 1910, 1920, and 1930 census records.
I never had the privilege of knowing my great-grandmother, Mattie. However, her picture bears an amazing resemblance to her daughter, Annie Mae (my grandmother), and I can imagine that Annie Mae must have inherited many other good qualities from Mattie.
