Son of Alice Fisher Kempen.

William served as a First Lieutenant, Company B, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He resided in Wilmington, Delaware prior to the war.

William was "Killed in Action" while fighting the enemy in North Korea.

His remains were recovered on November 3, 2003 and identified on January 7, 2005. He was interred in the Arlington, National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

First Lieutenant Kempen was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

This record here at Riverview Cemetery is a "Cenotaph" in his honor.
