A.F. Day Jr., MD, of Karnes City, Texas, passed away Saturday April 25, 2009, in Kenedy, Texas, at the age of 82.

He was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Brownwood, Texas, the son of Ancie Day and Irene Brubaker Day. A.F. was raised in the Brown County, Texas, area where he was quite proud of earning an Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He graduated in 1955 from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, earning his Medical Doctorate. Dr. Day practiced old-time general medicine, which included being a physician, surgeon and obstetrician. He practiced in Charlotte, Pleasanton and Runge, before practicing in Karnes City from 1961 until his retirement in 1991. He also owned the Karnes City Hospital during that time. He always remained dedicated to his medical practice and the general care he had for his patients.

Dr. Day was also a rancher, raising registered Hereford cattle. He loved to hunt, fish and was a skilled woodworker. He was a former member of the Texas Medical Association. Locally, he was active with the Boy Scouts and the Karnes County Youth Shows. Fred married and divorced Joyce Elaine ANDERSON. They had three children: Jeffrey Lynn, Freddie Lane and Suzanne Louise. He married June Wagenschein on Nov. 18, 1967, in Karnes County. He is survived by his wife, June Day, of Karnes City; one son; two daughters; six grandchildren; one sister, Betty Bartee of Lake Brownwood; and two brothers, Bob Day and Albert Day, both of Bangs.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
