The following was taken from a letter written by Phineas Mixer III to his nephew, Israel Putnam of Winsted, CT.

"Dorcas Catlin Woodworth Mixer, my mother, had but little education but could read and write and was of a wonderfully happy disposition. I never saw her angry. She raised a family of eight children and died of enlargement of the heart, Sept., 1853, aged 58 years.

Phineas Mixer, my Father, b. Norwich, MA, Dec. 13, 1793, died March 10, 1879, age 85 years.

They had 8 children:

1. Albert...died June 9, 1880 of Enlargement of Liver. (Farmer - Soldier in Union Army) aged 59 years.

2. Talcott - living 1902.

3. Emma Jane (Asenith) inherited the old Mixer home at Unionville and married William Barnes and died May 15, 1899.

4. Phineas (myself) lives Almira, Arkansas.

5. Ann Mixer m. _____Paine, lives Marietta, Ohio.

6. Aretus Mixer drowned Ashtabula Harbor 1869, aged 35 years.

7. Emily Bishop Mixer - Graduate of Western Female Seminary 1857; married Peter Radcliffe Putnam 1860 and resided in Marietta, Ohio till her husband's death and in 1865, married George White of Winsted, Conn. She died Feb. 15, 1898, of stoppage of gall-bladder duct.

8. Abigail Mixer married Samuel Putnam, 1st cousin to Peter Radcliffe Putnam 1856.
