VIRGINIA BEACH — Mary Lorna Roberson Gentry left this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 28, 2003. She was born in Ayden, N.C. on March 7, 1921. She would have celebrated her 82nd birthday on Friday.


During World War II she served her country faithfully by working at the arms and munitions factory at the Dupont Remington Arms factory in Bridgeport, Conn. She was a faithful wife and loving mother to her children She fought for her brother Macon's rights and looked after her mother until her passing in 1967. She was predeceased by her son Dan Lewis in 1958, her wonderful mother affectionately known as ‘‘grandmammy'' and by her two sisters, Betty Gray White and Effie Jean Smith and two brothers Macon Roberson and Sam Roberson.

She was married to James Lewis Gentry for over 54 years and gave life to four children, Evelyn Marie, Dan Lewis, Patty and Sandra Louise. She is survived by her husband; three daughters; five grandchildren, Adrian, Charlotte Travis, John and Matt; and two great-grandchildren, Vivian and Vinnie.

A private burial will be held in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk The family will receive friends in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
