CANTON -- Harry M. "Sol" Stroops, 88, of 616 VanWinkle Drive died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 1997, at his home.


Born July 18, 1908, in Browning to George C. and Florence Pearl Justus Stroops, he married Lois G. Cleer on Nov. 17, 1939, in Kahoka, Mo. She died Sept. 4, 1979. He also was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.


He later married Georgia Fouts on Dec. 22, 1979, in Canton. She survives. [She died 8 Dec 2000, Canton, Fulton County, Illinois]


Surviving are one stepson; one stepdaughter, Clarabel (Fouts) Cluney; six stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Lela Belville of Astoria and Alma Sayers of Beardstown. [both sisters have passed away since this obituary was published].


He worked at International Harvester in Canton for 21 years.


He made and played violins and was recorded playing old- time fiddle music by the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Canton Assembly of God Church. The Revs. Earle Black and Allen Worlin will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 tonight at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery.
