Deseret News Thursday, June 28, 1990 Obituary

A Salt Lake man drowned Tuesday evening while swimming across the south end of East Canyon Reservoir.

William E. Dunster, 32, was about 75 yards ahead of two other men when he disappeared under the water, said Morgan County Sheriff Bert Holbrook. "They could see that he was in trouble, but weren't able to reach him in time," the sheriff said.

Unable to find Dunster, the two men - John Bullick, 35, and Brent Conradsen, 36, both of Salt Lake City - hiked two miles to East Canyon Resort, where they summoned help.
Divers from the Morgan and Summit County Search and Rescue Team recovered the body at 7:45 p.m., following a 40-minute search, Holbrook said.

The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy Wednesday, and the incident remains under investigation, the sheriff added.

Two Salt Lake area men who summoned help for William E. Dunster, 32, who disappeared Tuesday evening while swimming across the south end of East Canyon Reservoir, did not hike to East Canyon resort for help but were taken there by vehicle.

A Sandy man, who asked not to be identified, said he was traveling in a vehicle with five other people to check out property in the area.

The Sandy man said the two men seeking help in finding the missing man flagged the vehicle down and were taken to the resort. Dunster drowned, and his body was later recovered from the reservoir by divers.
