Brown, V. Pauline McAninch 98 5/24/1910 4/15/2009

Victoria "Pauline" McAninch Brown nearly reached the 100-year mark she desired. On April 15, 2009, she departed this life to be with her beloved Lord. She would have been 99 on May 24. At the time of her death, she lived in Keizer. Pauline is survived by her devoted husband of over 72 years, Clarence Wilson Brown of Keizer. Most remarkably, Pauline played the piano well into her 96th year, spreading her talent among several congregations. Foremost is Keizer Community Church, where for eight years she played for church services and Pastor Don Stephen's adult Sunday school classes. Twice a month, on Saturdays, Clarence escorted his favorite pianist to the Union Gospel Mission, and on Sunday afternoons, she played at Avamere Court. She also played piano for Nursing Home Ministries, often performing at any one of three different nursing homes. She never needed to wear glasses. Born May 24, 1910, and raised in the rural community of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Pauline cooked for threshers when the crops needed harvesting, and helped keep up the family farm after her mother's untimely death in 1920. She completed high school before graduating in 1935 from Northwestern School of the Bible near Minneapolis. Pauline and Clarence were married in Portland, Dec. 6, 1936, and together had eight children, four boys and four girls. She always said she wished she could have had more and cherished each child she held. After raising a family of seven children (her first-born died at the age of 3 months), the couple moved to Liberia, Africa, following Clarence's work. During their seven years in Africa, Pauline taught in child evangelism and worked with missionary endeavors. She also taught Sunday school and piano lessons, as she had done in the states. She loved yellow roses, freshly picked tomatoes, spelling challenges and laughter. Her sole surviving sibling is Sammie Price of Springfield, Ohio. Elder siblings, Beatrice Bayless, Bernice Thompson and Weldon and Emerson McAninch; and younger sister, Cleva Cooper, preceded her in death. Two daughters preceded her in death, Mary Ida Brown in 1937 and Claireen Lois Brown in 2008. Surviving children are Angelyn Ray (Lakeview); Conrad Brown, and his wife, Marcela (Scottsdale, Ariz.); Lorisa Kerlin, and husband, Jack (Silverton); Benjamin Brown, and his wife, Patty (Willamina); Blaine Brown (Portland); and David Brown and wife, Julie (Oak Park, Ill.) Grandchildren are Marwan, Mazin and Khalid Alfadl; Miles and Leif Rudduck; Tiffany Dickinson, Julia Zunich and Joseph Talik; Winston, Rosemary and Xavier Brownlow; and Julie and Laura Brown. Pauline also enjoyed the love of a number of nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, students, and many, many friends. Memorial services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Keizer Community Church, 380 Churchdale Ave. N., Keizer, OR 97303 and will be officiated by Rev. Don Stephens.
