Arthur "Art" Anderson, a long-time resident of this area, Chisago City, Lindstrom and for the last seven years, North Branch at Green Acres Care Center. Art was born to Anders Gustav and Ida Matilda Anderson at home on July 8, 1905, in Chisago County. Art stayed on that family farm until 1966.

In retirement he liked painting pictures of houses, churches, and cabins. He led tours for Swedish visitors and senior citizen groups through all the landmarks in Chisago County. He was fluent in the Swedish language, traveled there often, and loved hosting guests from Sweden, including cousins and extended family still living in Sweden.

Art was married to Viola until her death in 1963. In 1969 he married Nan Grandstrand, a widow with three children, who taught third grade in Chisago City.

Art has many certificates of appreciation for all his active volunteering in our area. Some of these include: The Lakes Area Recreational Association Inc., Family Resource Center, Seven County Senior Federation, Chisago County Commissioners Certificate of Commendation, Zion Lutheran Appreciation, Chisago County Board on Aging, County Sponsored Transportation Program (driver for 17 years). He volunteered as Santa at the Lindstrom Library for many years. He lobbied for fairer prescription prices for seniors way back in the 1970s. He coordinated the volunteer driver program for many years.

Art was very proud to be chosen WCCO "Good Neighbor" in 1974, first locally and then statewide, as the MN State Fair "Good Neighbor of the Year."

Art died on Nov. 20, 2003, peacefully in his sleep.

His funeral was Nov. 24, 2003, at Grandstrand Funeral Home, in Lindstrom, with Pastor Russell Peterson officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Nan Anderson, Green Acres, North Branch; one brother, Edwin (Margaret) of Florida; nephew, Leo (Candy) Johnson; niece, Rita (Bob) Drury, and their children; stepchildren: Charles (Dorothy) Grandstrand, David (Karen) Grandstrand, Phyllis (David) Johnson. Art and Nan have seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

Art was buried at South Green Lake Cemetery, in Chisago City. He was 98 years, 4 months, 12 days. Peace be to his memory.

On December 7, 1953, Art married his first wife, Viola Hultman (1903-1963). On July 27, 1969, Art married his second wife, Nan Wilhelmina Malmberg Grandstrand (1910-2005). Art was the family historian for his generation and in his lifetime, Art traveled to Sweden at least five times for extended visits with his Swedish relatives.
