Funeral services for Peggy Roper, age 70, of Ponta, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edwin Crank officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bossier City, La.
Mrs. Roper passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, in Ponta.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1938, to Joe and Alline Kirk in Meridian, Miss.
She was a nurse at Bossier City Medical Center for several years and retired from Wal-Mart in Jacksonville. She was a member of the Red Hatter of Mount Selman. She attended Mount Selman Baptist Church.
Mrs. Roper is preceded in death by her parents; son, Clay Carroll; brother, John Kirk; and sister, Jo Ann Cumberland.
Survivors include husband, Leonard "Bubba" Roper of Ponta; brother, Jerry Kirk of Laurel, Miss.; special nephew and his wife, Kirk and Deborah Cumberland; special sister-in-law, Lavora Dunford of New Summerfield; special friend, Dianna Cowley of Brownsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wade Dunford, Chris Dunford, Vincent Roper, Larry Kenney, Terry Dunford and Eddie Lawson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
