Funeral services for Mrs. Luther M. Cheatham, 77, Giles County resident, were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at Bennett-May Funeral Home, conducted by Tommy Vernon, minister of Second Street Church of Christ. Mrs. Cheatham died Friday, May 18, at the home of her daughter, Miss Mary Cheatham, in Tampa, Fla., where she had been residing since the death of her husband.
Born July 24, 1884, in Marshall County, she was the former Miss Bessie Sue Baxter, the daughter of the late William Harris Baxter and Evie Bercheen Baxter. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Her husband, Luther M. Cheatham, died February 1, 1958.
In addition to Miss Cheatham, who lives in Florida, Mrs. Cheatham is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Ewell Scott, Columbia, and Mrs. Arch Taylor, Dalton, Ga.; five sons, Nat Chapman and Charlie Cheatham, both of Columbia, Thomas Cheatham and Robert Cheatham, both of Nashville, and Jesse Cheatham, Lynnville; sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Wilma Mitchell, Fayetteville; and two brothers, Stanley Baxter and Kenneth Baxter, both of Lewisburg.
