Abram B. Benedict, 98, of 1891 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg, died on Thursday, April 30, 2009 in his home, while surrounded by his family. Born on August 16, 1910 in Guilford Township, he was a son of the late Ezra and Lizzie Wingert Benedict. Abram was a member of the Falling Spring Old German Baptist Brethren. He was a lifelong dairy farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucille Boone Benedict, whom he married on February 20, 1940; three children, Roger B. (Ruth Emma Long) Benedict of Chambersburg, Zelda (John) Knaus of Knob Noster, MO, and Betty (John) Long of Pendleton IN; two brothers, Joseph and Paul Benedict, both of Chambersburg; one sister-in-law, Julia Benedict of Waynesboro; one step sister-in-law, Luella Helman of Waynesboro; 22 grandchildren, and 60 great grandchildren. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Hazel; another sister, Elizabeth Caufman; four brothers, Jesse (Grace), Glen (Pearl), Fred, and Harry (Evelyn); two sisters-in-law, Rhoda Benedict and Mary Catherine Benedict; two step brothers, Ralph Helman and Paul Helman; and three step sisters, Margaret Caufman, Rhoda Royer, and Mary Slothour.

His funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, May 4, at the Old German Baptist Brethren Meeting House on Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Home Brethren will preside. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewing will be at the meeting house on Sunday from 2:30 - 8 PM.
