James "Big Jim" Leon Vlcek, Jr.,of Russell, KS, son of James Leon and Mary (Zbornik) Vlcek, was born Nov. 11, 1932, at Wilson, KS. His death occurred Sept. 13, 2006, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus, Wichita at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 2 days.
Jim spent his entire childhood in Wilson, KS and graduated from Wilson High School and married Olive Rose Small on Oct. 23, 1957. Later that year they moved to Russell and were blessed with one son and three daughters.
Jim worked as an oil field foreman and truck driver with R.C. Williams and also worked as a farmer.
Jim and Olive enjoyed 41 wonderful years of marriage until Olive's death Feb. 4, 1999. Jim enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time at the lake, working on the farm and spending time with the family.
Jim was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell.
Survivors include a son, James L. III and wife Donna of Russell; three daughters, Ada Jo Vlcek, Wilson, June Lamfers and husband Doug, Lee´s Summitt, Mo., and Jill Falcon and husband Jerry, Russell; one sister Marilyn Cross of Hobbs, NM; one half-sister Adeline Root of Eugene, OR; and eleven grandchildren: Justin Mermis and wife Trisha, Nathan Mermis, Tony Mermis, Jamie Martindale and husband Andrew, Nicholas Vlcek and wife Nicole, Elizabeth Vlcek, Ryan Lamfers, Kara Lamfers, Sydney, J.J. and Olivia Falcon; 2 gt. grandsons: Brady and Blake Mermis with twin gt. grandchildren on the way; his pup Bebe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Theresa Ptacek and Virginia Barta and one half-sister Georgie Vlcek.
