Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away August 31, 1990 at 6:30 a.m. in the LDS Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born March 19, 1909 to August Otto and Ettie Hannah Palmer Smith in West Jordan, Utah, the eight child in a family of 13.
He graduated from Jordan High School in 1929. He was a student boy officer for three years and earned 14 letters; four in baseball, four in basketball and three in football. He also played M-Men basketball and baseball with the Farm Bureau. He helped originate his Jordan High Class of 1929 reunions and has worked with them until his death.
From 1930-32 he served an LDS mission in the Central States. He also served one regional and four stake missions. He married Ruby Stone, June 7, 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple, his sweetheart for eternity. They lived in many areas and made many friends. As an active member in the LDS Church, he served in many capacities including; teaching gospel doctrine, High Priest, Mutual, Sunday School, Bishopric and for 30 years on the Old Folks Committee. He was presently teaching a Sunday School class, Executive Secretary of the High Priests and a Temple Worker in the Jordan River Temple for temple for five years. In his life he has farmed, been in the chicken business, feed mill, construction, county road supervisor and was employed by the Jordan and Granite School Districts. Well done thy good and faithful servant, till we meet again. We love you.
Survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Jean) Brown, Mrs. Kenneth (Margie) Adams, Mrs. Clay (Dawn) Hatfield, 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Hazel Peterson, six brothers, John (Jack), Joseph, Raymond, Frank, Earl and Dean. preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mabel, four brothers, George, Louis, Glen and Walter.
Interment Murray City Cemetery.
