Mary Ellen Thomas was born in King City, Mo., Jan. 19, 1882 and died at Soldier, Kans. Monday, Sept. 30, 1907. When five years old she moved with her parents to Beattie, Kansas, where they lived until the spring of 1895 when they came to their present home in Soldier. In 1897 she graduated from the Soldier Schools ... In January 1898 she united with the Methodist Church in Soldier... apart of her time since the completion of her High School work in Soldier was spent in teaching, a part of training herself for more effective service in her chosen work. Six years, she has given a teacher's all important work in the' school room. After a term or two at Baker College she determined to enter a distinctively teachers school and enrolled in the Kansas State Normal. By work so arduous and unceasing that it doubtless shortened her good life she had reached senior standing at the Normal in less than the allotted time and would have graduated next June with her sister, Nellie ....
