Arthur served as a Staff Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner on B-17F #42-3380, 32nd Bomber Squadron, 301st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Scottsville, Monroe County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on September 3, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-17F #42-3380 took off on a bombing mission over Wiener Neustadt, Austria to bomb a ME 109 factory. They were attacked and shot down by multiple German Fighters and crashed near Thernberg, Austria during the war. Three other B-17's were also shot down during this attack.

Arthur was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart..
