Margaret Lane Mordecai was the youngest of 8 known children born to Samuel Fox Mordecai II & Elizabeth "Betty" Grimes. Her father was a prominent attorney and Dean of the law school at Trinity College in Durham, NC. She is the paternal granddaughter of Samuel Fox Mordecai Sr. & Ellen Mordecai (first cousins who married); and gr-granddaughter of Dr. Solomon Mordecai & Caroline Waller, prominent citizens of Mobile, AL. On her maternal side, she is granddaughter of Maj. Gen. Bryan Grimes & Elizabeth Hillard Davis of "Grimesland", Pitt Co, NC.

Margaret married the noted Sweedish-born biolgist/botanist Hugo Leander Blomquist ca. 1914, and was mother to Elizabeth B. Blomquist. She was widowed in 1964, and survived another 18 years until her death in 1982 at age 86.
