RICHARDS, Frankie , 86 of Lancaster, passed away April 23, 2009. Frankie came to the Antelope Valley in the early '60s with her husband Rex and young daughter, Leslie, from Seattle where she earned a journalism degree from the University of Washington by age 20. She wrote for 2 Seattle Daily's as well as spent 8 years writing for radio and early television. She was quoted as saying the Antelope Valley seemed very primitive, nothing but jackrabbits and Joshua trees. She was recruited by Bob Ernst, one of the A.V. Hospitals first administrators, as the public relations director, where she retired after 29 years before embarking on a 2nd career as a journalist. She wrote medical articles, desert stories and history of the A.V. Hospital and A.V. Fairgrounds for both the old Ledger-Gazette as well many feature stories in the A.V. Press "Valley Life" stories from Parades to the missing Otto the Turtle. At the time of her passing, she was in the middle of writing the newsletter for the A.V. Hospital Retires. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex in 2004 and is survived by her daughter Leslie Richards, her partner James Carver, Grandson Justin Bragg, partner Jessica Nowack and grandson Joshua Crews. Visitation will be held 4-8pm Thursday, April 30, 2009. Services will be held at 11:00am Friday, both at Halley-Olsen Chapel, Lancaster. Internment will take place at Lancaster District Cemetery, Lancaster.
