Wealthiest Man in Eastern End of County Passes Away Last Tuesday Morning
Edward Chipman, retired farmer, banker and capitalist, died at this residence in this city at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning after a brief illness. His death was caused by heart exhaustion super induced by diabetes and kidney trouble.
Edward Chipman was born in Brookville, Canada, on July 14th, 1824 and was 85 years, 9 months and 5 days of age.
On October 14, 1850, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Delany, and to them four children were born, Ellis who is an invalid and resided at home, Merrill who died in infancy, Alvira who died in 1902, and Mrs. Anna Paradis of Chicago. Mrs. Chipman died May 18, 1902.
Funeral services will be held from the residence this forenoon, Friday, at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. John Wilkinson pastor of the Grant Park M.E. Church, assisted by Rev. Connor of the M.E. Church here. The pall bearers have been chosen from his business associates-stockholders in the First National Bank – being W.P. Watson, J.J. Kirby, E.G.Wickes, W.G. Nichols, P.J. Cleary and W.W. Parish Jr. Burial will be in the Momence Cemetery.
