Ila Lee Braden Gilliand, 82, a native of Butler County and resident of Bay Minette, died Jan. 11, 1998, at North Baldwin Hospital in Bay Minette. She was a homemaker. All four of her sons were in active military duty at the same time serving a combined 48 services of service, three of them serving in Vietnam at the same time.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Noland Gilliand and David Michael Gilliand.
Survivors include two sons, Hudson D. "Pete" Gilliand of Bay Minette and Robert Douglas Gilliand of Fayetteville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Jan. 13 at Norris Funeral Home's Bay Minette chapel with the Rev. Jerry Presnall officiating. Burial was in Bay Minette Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Carl Thompson, Stephen Thompson, Ricky Waldrop, Randy Gilliand, Martin Flowers and Jeremy Flowers. Honorary pallbearers were Duston Steele, Dean Gilliand, Todd Gilliand, Frank Gilliand, Jimmy Waldrop and Joey Flowers.
