COOKE, Ellis Lamar 90, of Springfield, passed away on Monday afternoon, April 20, 2009 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Cooke was born in South Solon, Ohio on January 2, 1919 the son of Clarence and Ethel (Evans) Cooke. Ellis was a local area resident all of his life. He was a farmer for many years and retired from Milk Marketing Incorporated as a Field Manager after 40 years of service. Ellis and his wife, Jean were members of the Central Avenue Church of Christ, Fairborn. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Jean (McLin) Cooke; daughter, Carol (Webster) Bell of Omaha, Nebraska; three sons, David L. Cooke of Springfield, Gary (Suzi) Cooke of Fairfield, and Bill (Alicia) Cooke of Springfield; grandchildren, Kelly (David) Wallace, Scott (Penny) Bell, Teresa (Mark) Mattimore, Jennifer (Anthony) Terry, James (Rhonda) Cooke, Holly (Bill) Kovaleski, Jeremy Cooke, and Ian Cooke; and twelve great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Marianna (John) Shingler; two brothers, Marlin Cooke and Lloyd (Christine) Cooke, all of Springfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Healea and Martha Kennedy; three brothers, Norman, Ernest "Bud", and Kenneth Cooke; and a daughter-in-law, Ann P. Cooke. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Ellis' funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with his nephew, Rev. Steve Healea officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery.
