LANE NATIVE DEAD AT 98
HARRISBURG -- Mrs. Margaret Cook, 98, died at her home here sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Her body was discovered in a chair at her home Thursday morning.
She was born Jan. 17, 1863, north of Monroe, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Richardson, settlers on what was known as the Greeg(sic) Stroda farm, a land claim site.
Her father and mother came to Oregon by ox team from Missouri. Her parents were married on the wagon train during the trip west.
Mrs. Cook was the only survivor of a family of nine children, all born on the land claim of her parents.
She was a member of the Harrisburg Methodist Church. Three Link Rebekah Lodge and honorary life member of the Lane County Pioneer Historical Society.
She married W. W. (Billy) Cook Oct. 16, 1884, at Junction City. They moved from that community to a farm north of here in 1909. She has lived here since 1944.
Mrs. Cook is survived by three of her eight children, Mrs. Grace Fischer, Springfield; Mrs. Ruby Owen, John Day, and E. G. Cook, Harrisburg; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
The Murphy Funeral Home of Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.

COOK -- Margaret V. Cook, of 135 Kesling Street, Harrisurg, passed away February 22, 1961 at the age of 98. She was born in Monroe, Oregon January 17, 1863 and had been a resident of Harrisurg for 52 years and Oregon her entire life. She was married to William Cook October 18, 1884; he preceded her in death in 1933. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Lane County Pioneer Society and Harrisburg Methodist Church. Surviving are 2 daughters: Mrs. Grace Fisher of Springfield and Mrs. Ruby Owen of John Day; 1 son, Emmitt of Harrisburg; 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 1961, at 2 p.m. in the Harrisburg Chapel of the Murphy Funeral Home, Rev. William Hartford officiating. Vault interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Junction City.
