Jerry Owen Earnest, 59, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a long illness. He was born October 11, 1947, in Lee County to George Owen and Mildred Louise Sawyer Earnest. A native of Nettleton, he was a member of the Nettleton United Methodist Church. He was the former owner of Jerry's Baseball Cards in Tupelo. He was the race director of the former Nettleton 5-K run, and a member of the Nettleton Chamber of Commerce and the Nettleton Athletic Booster Club. He was an avid fan of the Nettleton Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels. He enjoyed collecting and trading baseball cards.

Services were at the Nettleton United Methodist Church with Dr. Wallace Cason III and the Rev. Ricky Jones officiating. Burial was in the Nettleton Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Earnest of Nettleton; one daughter, Sabrina Malone (Kevin) of Nettleton; one son, Jody Earnest (Wanda) of Nettleton; one grandson, Andrew Malone.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were Don Long, John Hall, James Allen Malone, Ricky Joe Green, Bubba Wiygul, Stevie Humble, Joe Peters and Johnny Holland.

Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Neal, Junior Inmon, Jimmy Sisk, Mike Dickerson, Carroll Pettigrew and Eddie Riley.
