Services for Alva E. Bibby, 90, formerly of Andalusia, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Willow Wood Nursing Home, Rock Falls, Ill., where he had resided for five years and where he died on Friday, Dec. 3, 1999.

Mr. Bibby was born April 17, 1909, in Marion County, Ala., the son of Morgan and Dovie (Keller) Holcomb. He married Verna Spear on Dec. 24, 1940, in Cullman, Ala. She died June 17, 1985.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WW II. He was a welder at John Deere Planter Works, Moline, for 23 years, retiring in 1974.

Alva is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Doyil and Nancy Bibby of Rock Falls; a daughter and son-in-law, Dolly and Rubin Hernandez of Michigan; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Bibby, in 1991; a granddaughter; and a sister, Annie Maddox.
