Margaret June (Merritt) Norman Spoon

Margaret June Merritt Norman Spoon, 87, a lifelong resident of Pittsboro, passed away peacefully in her sleep October 5, 2008. She was born June 14, 1921 to William and Clara (Albertson) Merritt. She worked on the assembly line for GM Motors, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the local UAW 933, Rebekah Lodge #450, Brownsburg American Legion Auxiliary and a chairperson for "History of Hendricks County." She was also the first Democratic woman elected to a public office in Middle Township. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Norman [killed in action in Italy February 5, 1945]; her parents and her brothers, Logan, Walter and John Merritt. Survivors include her husband, Franklin "Pete" Spoon [who she married April 6, 1951 in Clermont, Indiana], Pittsboro; daughters, Ruth Edens (Jack Engle), Pittsboro, Joan (Charlie) Waters, Pittsboro, Brenda (Greg) Novak, Indianapolis, Rachael (Richard) Hensley, Pittsboro; sister, Louzina (Maurice) Spoon; brother, Lloyd (Mary) Merritt; grandchildren, Tammy Yergens, Troy Edens, Annette Ross, Greg Waters, Deena Coll, Corey and Devin Cunningham, Shelby Smith, Kyle Hensley, Ethan Smith; great grandchildren, Erik and Kamela Anderson, Kelsey and Taylor Edens, Chaz and Caleb Ross, Paige and Chase Waters, Cody, Casey and Clayton Coll, Annabelle Cunningham, Sean and Kaylee Cunningham, Logan, Rylan and Madison Smith and several nieces and nephews including Thom and Mark Spoon and Barbara Selzer. The family would like to thank Rosie Jones and Odyssey Health Care. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 9 at 1 p.m. in David A. Hall Mortuary, Pittsboro, Indiana with visitation there from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 8. Her grandson, Pastor Shelby Smith, will officiate the services.
