Jonas met the Elders & was converted to the gospel and baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints June 30,1867. Their son Andrew Gustave and family were the 1st to travel to the USA. The rest of Jonas family came to America a little later.

Jonas Anderson Johnson age 51, Anna Maria age 50, Charlotta age 14, Alfred age 10 are listed sailing on the steamship, Idaho from Liver Pool, England June 24th, 1874 with 806 saints aboard, 700 Scandinavians and 110 British in charge P.C. Oartonso. The company arrived in New York July 6th and at Salt Lake City July 15th, 1874. They were then brought on to Grantsville where they met in a family gathering with their older sons.
Upon arrival in the USA he listed his name under Jonas Anderson (his fathers 1st name was Anders). The sons that came to USA 1st listed their name as Johnson (fathers 1st name was Jonas).
While living in Grantsville, Jonas changed his name from Anderson to Johnson so from there on he was known as Jonas Johnson. They made their home in Grantsville for a few years. The family then moved to Pleasant Grove/Lindon border. Many of their children died from Tuberculosis. Adolph died Aug. 15th 1886, Alfred Died August 5, 1887, Charlotta died July 11, 1889 and Levisa, Sept 1894.

The grandparents were left at home alone in their declining years, but when father (Andrew Gustave) went on his mission in Sweden he found the Pearson family with a girl, Christean who was about 13 years old. She was willing to come to Utah and live with the grandparents. Grandfather sent the money for Christean to come and live with them and go to school which she did a short time until her marriage to Joseph Ash. After that the grandchildren would take turn staying nights with our grandparents.
Grandfather kept bees and even the bees seemed to like his gentle touch as the bees seldom stung him while take in swarms or taking away their honey.
Grandma always had something for the grandchildren who come to her home, a lump of sugar of cookies or some of that wonderful rye bread that she baked.

Then grandma would tell us stories of when Jonas came to spark and grandfather would sit an listen with that loving gentle smile on his face.
Jonas and Anna never learned to speak the English language but he still would read the English newspaper. He was 87 when he died at their home in Lindon, March 10,1904 and was laid to rest in the family plot in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Grandma then went to live at Uncle Charley's home where she died about a year later on January 13, 1905 at the age of 86 and was laid to rest beside her loving husband and family. Thus closed the lives of a wonderful couple loved and revered by all who knew them.
