NORTHFIELD — Frances M. (Hewett) (Simmons) Johnson, 89, of Sears Drive, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Marathon Health Care Center in Torrington. She was the widow to Edwin Simmons, Phillip Johnson and Harold Johnson.

Frances was born May 8, 1919, in Bennington, Vt., daughter to the late Frank and Fanny (Brockway) Hewett. She retired as a machine operator from Thomaston Special Tool years ago. She was a former communicant of St. Peter Trinity Episcopal Church of Thomaston. Fran enjoyed listening to country music and was a president of the Kenny Roberts fan club.

Frances is survived by six sons, Terry Simmons, William Simmons, James Simmons, Godfrey Wells, Noel Wells and Michael Martin; three daughters, Judy Murgatroy, Dorie Williams and Cheryl Peck; a brother, Sterling Hewett; 46 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: Services are private. A graveside service will be held May 8 at noon. Burial will be in Northfield Cemetery. Lyons Funeral Home of Thomaston has been entrusted with her care.
