First Lt. Edwin M. Hankinson, a navigator in the Army Air forces, was killed June 26 in a bomber crash near Fort Fairfield, Maine, Lt. Hankinson, whose home was in Morrice, Michigan, was graduated in 1939 from the agricultural division. He was married June 18, 1943 to Elaine Grate of East Lansing.

Navigator aboard B-26B Marauder #41-31645. One of nine victims in a crash into a potato patch, nine miles northeast of Presque Isle, Maine. The bomber lost control and crashed into a horse-drawn wagon, killing all five airmen aboard and four civilian farmhands, including a nine-year-old boy and his father.
