CAPT. R. W. TRUITT
OAKLAND - Calif. - Captain Razzie W. Truitt, 71, (U.S. Navy ret.), died here Saturday as the result of a heart attack. Capt. Truitt was the husband of the former Miss Nannie Potts of Salisbury.
A native of Campbelltown, Worcester County, Capt. Truitt served as pastor of St. Andrews Methodist Church in Salisbury in 1916. He entered the U.S. Navyduring World War I and made his career in the service. He served in Haiti during the U.S. occupation of that country in 1919. He served with the Marine regiment defending Shanghai as the Japanese attempted to take over that city in 1934. During World War II he served as fleet chaplain in the Pacific area on the staff of Admiral Chester Nimitz.
In addition to his wife, Capt. Truitt is survived by two sons, Ross Truitt, Los Angeles, Calif., and Lawrence Truitt, Arcata, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Weeks, Newton, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
Other survivors are two brothers-in-law, Thomas and Charles Joseph Potts of Salisbury.
Burial rites will be conducted in the Golden Gate Naval Cemetery tomorrow.
