Obituary. BIGGS. John Price Biggs was born in Montgomery county, Virginia, May 1, 1822, and died at his late home near Gilead, Ind., October 30, 1901, aged seventy-nine pears, five months and twenty-nine days. At twelve years of age he with his father's family came to Marion county, Indiana. After a residence there of two years they moved to Miami county, Indiana, and settled on a farm near Gilead, adjoining the one on which he died. Thus for sixty-six years he has been a resident of Miami county, except for a few months that he lived just across the line in Fulton county, that being fifty years ago. So it is that another of Miami county's pioneers is gone. One by one they are going until only a few remain who have helped in the development of Miami county from a wilderness to what it is today. He was married to Elizabeth Whittenberger in the year 1889 [correction Jan 3, 1850]. To this union was born five children, all of whom died in early childhood except one, B. F. Biggs, of Rochester. In December 1861, he lost the companion of his youth, but was again married in 1863 to Rebecca Fancher, who is left to mourn her loss of a good husband. To this union was born three children, two sons and one daughter. Charley, the oldest, died in infancy; those living are Marion F. and Martha V., wife of William H. Carrothers. Thus he leaves a widow two sons and one daughter to mourn his departure, also thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with a host of relatives and friends. W. H. C.
