John served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24D "Jughead" #41-24068, 400th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Alameda County, California prior to the war.

B-24D #41-24068 took off from 5 Mile Drome (Wards) on a bombing mission against Wewak, East Sepik Province Papua New Guinea. While trying to fly under a tropical storm they collided with the rugged terrain during the war.

John was "Killed In Action" in this crash along with the entire crew.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
