Funeral services for Rev. Alvin I. Shannon, 89, who died Wednesday, August 28, 1957, in Grand View Hospital, Pryor, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Wagoner Pentecostal Holiness Church. Born in Bushnell, Illinois, Rev. Shannon first moved to Nebraska, then in 1910 came to Wagoner where he lived then later moved to Mazie. He had lived in Pryor two years prior to his death from a heart condition.
A minister of the Pentecostal Church for 51 years, Rev. Shannon was the first Pentecostal minister in this part of the state. He was first married to Eva Mae (Houghtaling). She preceded in him death, September25, 1915.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Alvin (Mary Katherine Butterfield) Shannon; five daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dean, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Izola Nuckolls, Mazie; Mrs. Ada Mae Mayo, Pryor; Mrs. Dell Wassom, Stigler and Mrs. Goldena Boyle, Tulsa; three sons, Edgar of Chula Vista, California, Hobart of Nowata, Oklahoma, Dayton of Phillips, Texas; one brother, Joe Shannon of Hastings, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Rev. Oscar Moore, Shawnee, Rev. Froud, Pryor and Rev. Marvin Hamm, pastor of the Wagoner Pentecostal Holiness Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Hersman Funeral Home, Wagoner.
Honorary pallbearers will be M. M. Combites, Bill Heath and Newt Owens. Active pallbearers will be Frank Baker, Leonard Holloway, Edgar Cannon, George Heath, Charles Cannon and Bernard Geurin.
