John Dingman was the son of Henry Dingman and Margriete "Peggy" Shutter.

The birth date is actually incorrect on his stone. John and his twin brother Abraham were born 23 Dec 1792 and baptized 20 Jan 1793 in the Kinderhook Reformed Church. Abraham died young, and a second brother Abraham was born in 1795.
Their parents were married 4 Aug 1791 in Schodack NY.

The newspaper likely had the same informant that provided the info for his stone, but we have his baptismal information, and the marriage record of his parents. Not sure why he claimed to be 5 years older than he was, but it's not all that unusual either...
