Gustave Herman Bahr was born October 27, 1913, in Cedar County, the son of Gustav and Juliane (Suckstorf) Bahr. He was baptized according to the Lutheran faith at the Lutheran Church in Crofton. When he was two years, the family moved to a farm south of Crofton and started his education at the area school. In 1924, he moved with his family to the present farm near Bloomfield. On March 10, 1942, he was inducted into the Army during World War II, but received an honorable medical discharge on June 4, 1942, due to emotionally problems, which stayed with him all of his life.
Surviving are his parents; one sister, Dorothy (John) Lowin of Bloomfield; two brothers, Herman and William Bahr, both of Bloomfield, and one half-brother, Nick Suckstorf of Bloomfield.
The Bloomfield Monitor, Nov 18, 1943, pg 1
Notes: Gustav Bahr's middle name is Herman. His father's middle name is Heinrich. Even though their names are not the same, Gustav has "Jr" on his gravestone.
He never married. His death was the result of a self-inflicted gun shot on his parent's farm near Bloomfield. He had been despondent over the inability to serve in the military during World War II.
