LORIS: Mr. Carl Dean "Red Bug" Lewis Sr., 67, of Tram Road, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his residence following an illness.

Mr. Lewis was born October 31, 1941 in Horry County, South Carolina, a son of Helen Harris Lewis Jones Corley and the late William Dempsey Lewis Sr. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Gurley Baptist Church. Mr. Lewis was predeceased by one sister, Joyce Ann Jeffords.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Lewis of Loris; his mother, Helen Harris Lewis Jones Corley of Gaston; his two children, Carl Dean Lewis Jr. and his wife, Connie, and Patricia Cook, all of Loris; his mother-in-law, Marion Keisler of Lexington; his three sisters, Louise Morgan and her husband, Harold, of Columbia, and Linda Corley and Brenda Gunter, both of Gaston; his brother, Ernest Lewis of Columbia; and his two precious granddaughters, Destiny Lewis and Nikki Lewis .

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from the Gurley Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Hackett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Stevens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Ward Funeral Home in Loris.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Mercy Hospice of Horry County for all of their help, kindness, and care during Mr. Lewis ' illness.
