OTTAWA -- Edith F. Gibbons, 93, Ottawa, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at an Ottawa nursing home.

Mrs. Gibbons was a nurses aid and care provider for more than 21 years at Crestview Nursing Home in Ottawa before she retired in 1986. She earlier had been a cook at the Ottawa Senior Center and she owned and operated several Ottawa restaurants in the 1960s, including the City Cafe, Gibbons Cafe, Edith's Cafe and Highway Cafe.

She was born Feb. 13, 1905, at Fayetteville, Ark., the daughter of John Pratt and Minnie McGuire.

She attended school in Fayetteville, Ark., and moved to Ottawa many years ago. Mrs. Gibbons was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a life member of the auxiliary to Memorial Post No. 5901 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Ottawa.

She married Thomas Adams on Sept. 1, 1918, in Oklahoma. They were divorced. She married Nate S. Gibbons in 1936. He died July 19, 1969.

Mrs. Gibbons also was preceded in death by a son, William F. Adams, Jan. 29, 1998, a grandson, Carl Adams, and a granddaughter, Carol Adams.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Adams, Ottawa, and Oren Adams, Hominy, Okla.; a daughter, Betty M. Snavely, Lenapah, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa where the Post No. 5901 auxiliary will conduct honors.

Burial will be at the Garnett Cemetery in Garnett.

Mrs. Gibbons will lie in state after 5 p.m. Monday at the mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the mortuary.
