The "Genealogical Memoir of Capt. William Fowler," first published in 1870, claims Jonathan's wife was Hannah Clark, which diligent research does not support. The memoir was also unaware of where and when Jonathan's eldest three children were born, thus it claims the third child was the eldest of the family.
On Jan. 7, 1719/20 at Suffield, then part of Hampden County, Mass., Jonathan Fowler, Jr. m. Hannah Smith, the widow of Joseph Barber of Suffield. She d. June 15, 1743 at Coventry, Conn. (g.s.) They had 11 known children, the three oldest of record at Suffield, Mass. (now Suffield, Conn.), the fourth child of record at Lebanon, Conn., and the seven youngest of record at Coventry, Conn.
In circa 1744-45 at an unknown place, Jonathan m. 2) Hannah, whose origins have not been found. She was b. circa 1698 and d. Oct 1, 1756 at Coventry, Conn. There were no known children of this second marriage.
