Iona Lillian Skinner, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, was born January 21, 1911 in Beeville, Texas, to Robert Lemone and Hattie Mae (Puterbaugh) Withrow. Iona suffered a stroke and, on April 16, 2007 in Reno, Nevada, moved on to be reunited with her beloved husband, Bill Skinner, who had proceeded her in death on April 8, 2001.

Iona lived a full life of 96 years. She grew up in Cherokee, Oklahoma the oldest of four children. In high school she lettered in basketball, ran track, sang in the girl's glee club and mixed chorus. Iona left high school at 16 to pursue marriage and two children were born out of that union. Iona was a strong woman. She left Oklahoma and her ex-husband, moving to San Diego, California where she found work in an Ocean Beach café. She met Frank Marco, they married, and adopted a daughter. Mr. Marco passed away in 1953 leaving Iona a young widow. Iona met Bill Skinner, a widower with two daughters, and they were married in November 1957. Iona worked along side Bill on their egg ranch in Lakeside, California while keeping up with their three busy girls. In 1968 they moved to Ramona, California where they lived until 2000 when they relocated to Reno, Nevada to be closer to family.

Iona was an active woman, always on the go. She was a Girl Scout leader, lifetime member of the California PTA, and active in Easter Star, the Lakeside Presbyterian Church and First Congregational Church of Ramona, along with supporting the activities of her children, grandchildren and the community. In the last six plus years since moving to Reno, she participated in all of the activities that were offered at her residence. She was the nickel Bingo Queen, loved to play dominoes and was a veracious reader. She deeply loved her family and friends, children and animals. Iona will be remembered for her love of music, giving of herself, and her kindness toward everyone.

Iona is survived by her five children, Rusty (Jean) Ryan, of Anthony, Kansas, Jack Ryan of Columbia Falls, Montana, Sally (Cecil) Johnson of Dobson, North Carolina, Paula (Sam) Chung, Reno, Nevada, Linda (Michael) Allen of Petaluma, California; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
