ElRoy was born on Sept 11, 1940, in Hutchinson, MN. He was the son of Benjamin and Harriet Jane (Pierce) Dobratz.
ElRoy was baptized as an infant on october 12, 1940, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson and was later confirmed as an adult in February of 1964 at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

He received his education in Hutchinson and was a graduate of Hutchinson High School Class of 1958.

ElRoy entered active military service in the US Army on Feb 27, 1959, and served his country in Ft Sheridan, IL, and Korea. He received an Honorable Discharge on April 12, 1962.

On May 20, 1962, ElRoy was united in marriage to Muriel Rasmussen at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with three sons: Randy, Tim, and Chris. ElRoy and Muriel resided in Hutchinson. They shared 46 years of marriage.

ElRoy held employment in Minneapolis, MN, until May 13, 1963, when he began his career at 3M in Hutchinson. He retired on Feb 1, 1997, after 34 years.

In 1999, ElRoy began his second career, working parttime for the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson, and was a valued member of their staff. He also worked parttime at Sears in Hutchinson.

ElRoy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson where he served as Past President of the Congregation. His true passion was working for the Lord; he was active in all aspects of the church and committees.

In his earlier years, ElRoy enjoyed coaching youth hockey, which he did for 8 years, playing softball, hunting, and fishing. In his later years, ElRoy enjoyed playing golf, gardening, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

He liked to travel and, most recently, visited Mexico with his wife. ElRoy loved life and enjoyed keeping busy. His family time was most important in his life; he cherished the time he was able to spend with his wife and best friend, Muriel, children, and grandchildren.

ElRoy was a kind and giving person who was a true gentleman. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

ElRoy passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, at the age of 68 years. Blessed be his memory.

ElRoy was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents Benjamin and Harriet Dobratz; parents-in-law Nels and Mildred Rasmussen; brothers in law Dale McLain and George Levy.

Surviving family: Norita Levy, and DeEtta Nelson and her husband, Buzz; Aunt Burnette Pierece; and sister in law Maureen Wild and her fiance Joseph Ulian.

Casket bearers were Marlin Torgerson, ralph Lundahl, Brett Rasmussen, Roger Krantz, Steve Rick, and Craig McLain.

Interment is at Oakland Cemetery, Hutchinson, MN.
