RICHARD TURNER KILLED
-------------------
Ralph Edwards Kills Man At
Mill Spring

Ralph Edwards shot and killed instantly Richard Turner, both white, in Edgerton's store at Mill Springs, Polk County, Wednesday night, November 8th at dark. It is reported that Edwards called Turner and asked him what he said about him the day previous at Columbus. Turner replied "Nothing". Edwards pulled his pistol and fired, the bullet going into his left side. He died instantly. Edwards was eating supper on a box in the store. He went on eating after he had killed Turner talking and laughing and dared anyone to touch the dead man.
Turner was about 60 years old, while Edwards is about 25 or 30. Both are married and live near Mill Springs. Whiskey and politics are reported to be the cause, as both were extreme politically and held opposite views. Edwards was drinking the day of the election and told some one the next morning that he was going to get him a man that day. Edwards was lodged in jail at Columbus to await his fate by criminal court later.
