Clinton Richard Sampson
January 22, 1924 - April 9, 2009

Clinton R. Sampson died peacefully in the Veteran's Affairs Hospital in Grand Junction, CO after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Friends and family may call on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Interment with military honors will be held in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. From 11:30 to 12 Noon friends may greet the family at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Redlands Chapel, 2235 Kingston Road. The memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church with Bishop Craig Stagg conducting. Clinton was born, the seventh of 11 children, on January 22, 1924 to Alonzo and Mary Alice Sampson in McCornick, UT. He graduated from Delta High School in 1942 and in 1943 was called to serve in WWII. Returning from the war he was recruited to play football in Fort Collins, CO and later for Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO where he was an Intermountain Conference All-Star. He lived on the Western Slope and Roaring Fork Valley from 1946-2009. Clinton married Lola Ogden on December 12, 1954, in Las Vegas, NV. Clinton is survived by his wife, Lola; a sister, Myrna (Clifford) Woodall of Salt Lake City, UT; a son, Woody of Aquadilla, Puerto Rico; a daughter, Sharon (David) Rettie of Riverton, UT; a son, Dale (Yvette) Sampson of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter in-law, Kim Peterson of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Shawn, Venessa, Alexander, Michael, Karrah, Rachel, Derrek, Matthew, Whitney, Blake, Taylor, Tanner; and great grandchildren, Shawn Jr, and Jaelynn. He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Sampson. Clinton's career was in the Dairy Industry. He owned and operated the Aspen Dairy, and the Glenwood Springs Creamery, which he sold to Meadow Gold Dairies and continued with them until his retirement. Clinton loved the Lord and was an active member of the 8th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many church positions. His greatest joy was his family.
