Participant in the Hawaiian Constitutional Convention, which framed the Constitution of the Republic, and in 1894 was elected representative to the Legislature from the fourth district of O'ahu. He was shot and killed in the 1895 Counter-Revolution in Hawaii, also known as the Wilcox rebellion, at the Battle of Diamond Head.
